Our hope is for mothers to receive the support they deserve.
Nurture Geelong is a locally based therapy service focused on providing mental health support to mothers. Nurture Geelong aims to provide a space for women to feel nurtured during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, motherhood. It is important to us that mothers feel they have a place to explore their journey with no pressure or judgement. We believe that the optimal conditions for a woman to be both the person and mother she wishes to be are created when she feels supported at this time. We hope to minimise the deteriorating mental health of mothers and the burnout that so many experience. Additionally, we believe a supported mother has many benefits for the systems around her including the family unit.
We can assist with a range of areas such as:
Preparing for birth and post-partum
Working through and understanding identity shifts that arise during motherhood
Managing symptoms of postpartum depression and anxiety
Navigating challenges between siblings or bringing a baby home
Making sense of intense emotions such as anxiety or rage during pregnancy or postpartum
Managing feelings of overwhelm and navigating the mental load
Recovering from trauma, particularly birth trauma
Managing symptoms such as anxiety, low mood lack of motivation
Attachment and understanding of your baby and or child
Challenges within your relationship with your partner
About Nurture
Nurture Geelong encompasses a non-judgemental relaxed approach ensuring a safe space for all clients. We hope to provide a space for mothers to feel understood and less alone. The therapy is a mixture of both self and therapist guided working collaboratively to determine what is best for you and your needs at the time. It can be daunting reaching out to someone new for help therefore, we do what we can to make the space as relaxed and as comfortable as possible in order to feel safe to be able to discuss and address your concerns.
At Nurture, we use various therapeutic approaches to address clients needs which include but not exclusive to; Trauma and Attachment theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Systems Theory and Developmental Psychology. Again, the type of approach will be determined at the time with the client to ensure the treatment plan is tailored specifically to their needs. Above all it is important to us that the therapy experience is relaxed where there is no extra pressure on top of the already overflowing load so many mothers already experience. It is important to note that the work at Nurture is informed and in line with the guidelines outlined by the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) as well as informed by organisations such as the Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia (PANDA).
Please note that there are options for either telehealth or in person appointments, babies are welcome at your appointment.
